If you’ve been meaning to get your affairs in order but never find the time, NSW Trustee and Guardian is making it easier for locals with a Plan Ahead Day at Windsor on November 29.
The event will be held in the Tebbutt Room of the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor.
The event aims to enable people to make or update their Will or Power of Attorney documents with expert help from the NSW Trustee and Guardian.
Planning ahead involves thinking about how your affairs would be managed and how you wish to be looked after if your circumstances change.
This includes deciding what should happen to your loved ones if you are no longer around to take care of them.
Have you appointed a guardian for your children, made arrangements for the welfare of others closest to you, or thought about what should happen to your pets if you are no longer able to take care of them?
By preparing a Will, making a Power of Attorney and appointing an Enduring Guardian you are prepared for whatever the future holds.
The team from NSW Trustee and Guardian has the experience to answer all your questions and is experienced in writing Wills for people with a range of different family circumstances.
NSW Trustee and Guardian has been making wills, Powers of Attorney and administering estates for the people of NSW for more than 100 years.
During this time, NSW has written more than one million Wills.
“We really have seen many different situations and people in a range of family circumstances, so we are well experienced to help and offer advice on estate planning,” said Michelle English from the Parramatta branch.
“NSW Trustee & Guardian can be appointed as the executor of your Will and as your attorney, under a Power of Attorney. By appointing NSW Trustee & Guardian as your independent executor and attorney you can be assured someone independent and impartial is acting on your behalf and it is an easy way of reducing the burden on family members.
“Without a Will, items of monetary and sentimental value may not be distributed as you may have wanted. It is also important your Will is kept up-to-date as your life circumstances change, for example, when you get married, purchase a business or property, get divorced, or have children.
“A Power of Attorney should also go hand-in-hand with a Will, as it allows you to appoint an attorney to manage financial and legal affairs such as paying bills and signing documents if you are unable to manage these affairs yourself or lose the mental capacity to make decisions for yourself in the future.”
Planning ahead is not just for older people, said Ms English.
“Every adult 18 years and over needs to set time aside to get these documents in place because no one knows what is around the corner,” she said.
“The good thing is, once you have planned ahead, you can get on with enjoying life, knowing that your assets and finances will be protected in the future.”
