Ongoing roadworks being completed for North Richmond’s new Redbank development are leaving local residents frustrated and led to claims the roadway is hazardous.
The works were slated for completion in September, but a statement from the developer said the main component of the works was expected to be finished by Christmas, weather permitting.
Independent candidate for Hawkesbury, MJ Bowyer, said the roadworks were “disruptive” and the latest work outside the Redbank sales office was leaving the road in a hazardous state.
“At the end of the work day, the road has been left with large unfilled trenches, which have resulted in several commuters having to repair or replace blown tyres,” she said in a statement. “There are large potholes and ridges for drivers to negotiate.
“The lanes are being changed around with minimal signage and lighting for those driving on Grose Vale Road in the dark. During rainy periods the road base became slippery clay, making it dangerous to drive on.
“Locals are fed up with the lack of information and consultation so typical of these large scale developments.”
But a Redbank spokesperson said the works would “transform a section of a kerb-less, poor rural road into [a] brand new, wider, modern roadway”. The works were approved by Hawkesbury Council, and council inspections “have and will continue to take place to ensure that the road is left in a safe state after the working hours”.
“Redbank Communities has constructed the main entry statement for the estate which will connect with Grose Vale Road through a roundabout,” the spokesperson stated. “This requires making Grose Vale Road wider and safer with massive aesthetic improvements.”
Rumours construction delays were due to insufficient water pressure to the development were false, the spokesperson stated.
“As part of the overall water infrastructure upgrade works, Redbank had to install a new water main along Grose Vale Road further up from the new roundabout and some works around the Sydney Water compound,” the spokesperson said.
Redbank and contractors had notified residents if their driveway access would be affected and dust control procedures were also in place.
“Redbank Communities and JK Williams are always mindful and committed to minimising impact of the works, and we apologise for any inconveniences caused ... We are requesting everyone to be patient for a little longer and are expecting to finish the main component of these works before Christmas, weather permitting.”
