Blueprints for the future of the Pitt Town Community Precinct will be prepared in conjunction with local residents after Hawkesbury Council resolved to reclassify a parcel of land.
A report before the October 30 council meeting sought approval for the preparation of a planning proposal to facilitate the development of community facilities, recreational buildings and park improvements within the Pitt Town Release Area.
Council has acquired 9.95 hectares of land on Fernadell Drive for the Pitt Town Community Precinct, made up of two sections of land. A 4,299 square metre section of land to the west of Fernadell Drive was identified as the site for a proposed community centre, with the balance identified for recreation and sporting facilities.
During preliminary talks with the local community, the option of building a single multi-function community, recreation and sporting facility was provisionally endorsed, meaning the 4,299 square metre community centre site would no longer be required.
As such, council proposed reclassifying the site from community to operational land, and consulting with locals to ascertain the best use of that site into the future.
Peter Ryan, of the Pitt Town Progress Association, told the meeting members supported the selling off of the current community centre site and the co-location of the community centre to the sporting complex on the Fernadell Park site, “providing that all the proceeds and funds of the current site are directed into the new community centre in addition with he funds that have already been allocated.”
“The sale should be conducted in a way that maximises the funds available to go to the community centre, and we should be provided with full financial details of this,” he said.
“The community must be given the option of a single building, or two separate buildings with pros and cons of each of the options.”
