Hawkesbury’s rough start to the 2018/19 cricket season continued on Saturday.
The club’s first grade squad finished at the wrong end of the card for the third time in as many games, this time against Blacktown at Owen Earle Oval.
The home side’s batting innings however, was called short on Saturday, due to bad weather.
The Hawks had a good first innings, bowling the Blacktown squad all-out for 241 in 49.1 overs.
Bowler Chris Lawrence knocked over three wickets on the day only (taking his season tally to five) giving up 37 runs, his best innings of the season.
The Hawks went up to bat on Saturday afternoon looking to reach 241 before rain set in.
Tim Wilson got them off to a good start hitting 24 from 19 balls before being bowled.
Captain and co-coach of the Hawks, former-Australian cricketer Peter Forrest was unable to match his impressive 86 runs from two weeks prior getting bowled lbw for three.
Dale McKay was the highlight of the Hawkesbury squad whacking 42 before the rain intervened on the innings.
In a close game Hawkesbury lost by 9 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
The Hawks will be travelling to Sutherland next week.
They will face Steve Smith and Sutherland Cricket Club who are coming off of a loss to Eastern Suburbs where Smith was bowled for a duck.
