Hawkesbury State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers responded to 15 calls for assistance during storms that swept across the area over the weekend.
Controller Kevin Jones said calls were received from the Blaxlands Ridge, Pitt Town and Oakville areas as the storm hit in the afternoon and early evening of Saturday, October 20.
“We had 15 requests for assistance on Saturday afternoon and night,” he told the Gazette. “Seven or eight calls were for trees across roads, which council and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) looked after.
“The others were for either trees that had come down in people’s yards or a bit of wind damage on houses.
“We were pretty lucky, really.”
It was the first time in a long time the SES volunteers had responded for storm damage due to the drought, Mr Jones said.
