Victoria's greyhound racing industry will get a $4 million boost if Labor wins the state election.
In an announcement on Thursday night the government promised to boost prize money by $1 million and upgrade training facilities and tracks over two years if re-elected in November.
"This investment will help support Victorians working in greyhound racing in suburbs, regional cities and country towns right across the state," Racing Minister Martin Pakula said.
The plan would maintain the "very best quality" of racing and attract more investment for breeding, rearing and training.
The chair of Greyhound Racing Victoria backed the plan.
"This additional prize money will allow us to invest more funding across Victoria to deliver strong animal welfare outcomes, more infrastructure improvements and greater support for participants in the suburbs and regional communities," chair Bernie Carolan said.
It comes two years after the government said it had cut breeding numbers for the animals by a third.
