CREATE NSW has invited Hawkesbury Council to discuss possible funding opportunities to support a performing arts facility in the Hawkesbury, in acknowledgement of increasing cultural demand in the region.
This came after the NSW Government agency for integrated arts, screen and culture visited town this week explain funding opportunities and support for creative individuals and organisations in the region.
A crowd of locals turned up to the Deerubbin Centre in Windsor to hear about what’s on offer and network with like-minded individuals.
Hawkesbury Gallery & Museum Director Kathleen von Witt said hosting the Create NSW Roadshow was “a fantastic opportunity for the arts and creativity” in the area.
“There is huge potential for an extraordinary range of projects and activities. Having the Create NSW team visit in person and answer questions, offer advice and give support to individual projects and ideas led to a real feeling of energy and enthusiasm from the participants,” she said.
“I am grateful to the team for coming to the Hawkesbury and working with us and I look forward to seeing new projects come to life.”
Hawkesbury Mayor Barry Calvert praised Create NSW’s Arts and Cultural Development Program (ACDP), which provides funding opportunities for NSW-based arts and cultural organisations, NSW professional artists and arts/cultural workers across a range of artforms and disciplines.
“This is such a positive program to help promote arts in the Hawkesbury, Western Sydney and throughout NSW,” Councillor Calvert said.
“I am already hearing from local artists who are heartened by the offer of potential financial and in-kind support to help make their art and cultural dreams a reality.
“This is a great opportunity to encourage further cultural development in the Hawkesbury.”
