HAVE you been knitting poppies for the Hawkesbury Library and Gallery’s Armistice Day Project, or would you like to lend a hand? There are a few dates coming up that you might want to diarise.
Poppy installation assembly: Friday, October 5, 10am to midday – Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Deerubbin Centre; and Friday, October 12, 19 and 26, 10am to midday – Stan Stevens Studio, Deerubbin Centre.
The library has been hosting monthly poppy-making days since April with over 6,000 poppies knitted or crocheted by the crafters of the Hawkesbury.
They will now be made into an installation to commemorate the centenary of the end of WWI. The installation will grace the atrium of the Deerubbin Centre in Windsor, and will be installed by Hawkesbury Regional Gallery staff in the first week of November.
Everyone is invited to help in the simple process of tying the 6,000 poppies to the supplied netting. BYO darning needles or crochet hooks and wool.
If you have been knitting poppies for the project at home, please drop them off by Friday, October 19 at the Library, Gallery or Museum.
No bookings required. Tea and coffee provided. For more information, phone the Gallery on 02 4560 4441 or the Library on 02 4560 4460.
The Launch of the Commemorative Poppy installation will take place on Friday, November 9, 10am at the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor. For more information about the launch and to register your interest, visit Eventbrite (search for Hawkesbury Library Service).
