AS another Civic Video store closes its doors, the Hawkesbury’s Windsor Civic Video store is still going strong, and owner Guirong Wu is yet another step closer to his goal of becoming the last video shop still trading in Australia.
With the Civic Video shop in Shellharbour closing down this month, Windsor is now the only shop under the Civic franchise brand in NSW.
The Gazette has been following Mr Wu’s journey since he became the only video shop left in the Hawkesbury region. At the time, he was one of a handful of Civic stores left. Now, he is the only Civic Video in the state.
“That’s big news for me. I thought ‘oh my god’!” Mr Wu told the Gazette.
“Our journey is getting more close now!”
He said over the last two weeks he had already had some old customers from Shellharbour calling in to view his selection of movies with a view to joining-up.
He told the Gazette he isn’t in the movie hire business “for the money”, but rather he views it as an achievement.
Mr Wu has owned the shop for almost 15 years and though he used to employ staff there, he now runs the shop solo, covering all the shifts himself.
Civic Video is in the Old Post Office Arcade in Windsor and is open seven days a week.
