Windsor and District RSL Sub-Branch has held a service commemorating Battle of Australia Day at the Windsor War Memorial.
Proclaimed as a Commemoration Day by the Federal Government in 2008, the Battle for Australia is observed on the first Wednesday of September to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who served in defence of Australia in 1942 and 1943.
At 11am on Wednesday, September 5, members of the Windsor and District RSL Sub-Branch and several other service organisations, as well as local residents, gathered at the war memorial for the 20-minute ceremony.
The service was led by Windsor and District RSL Sub-Branch secretary Leon Walker, with the poem Sleep Soundly Soldier read by Col Wilson and Prayer of Remembrance by Jim Mackenzie.
Windsor RSL Club president Dave Ingram read the Prayer for the Nation, while the commemorative address was presented by Sub-branch president Geoff Brand.
“Today we remember all of those who served and died … when the nation faced its greatest peril,” he said.
Wreaths were laid before the Last Post sounded, and the national anthem was played.
Those present enjoyed lunch afterwards at Windsor RSL Club.
