The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has issued watch and act advice for a bushfire burning near Bells Line of Road at Bilpin and Cattai Ridge Road at Maraylya
Posted shortly before 1pm today (Wednesday), the NSW RFS stated the fire is currently burning out of control between Johnsons and Glenara Road, Bilpin.
The fire had burnt out approximately 10 hectares of land by 1.20pm, and engulfed a total of 35 an hour later.
”A bush fire is burning near the Bells Line of Road, Bilpin between Johnsons Road and Glenara Road,” an RFS statement said.
“The fire is moving in an easterly direction fanned by strong winds. There are isolated properties in the area that are likely to come under threat over the coming hours.
“Bells Line of Road has been closed between Kurrajong Heights Bowling Club and Johnsons Road.
“The fire is burning in Very High fire danger conditions. Under these conditions, fires can be difficult to control.
“Embers may be blown ahead of the fire, creating spot fires. These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front.”
A second fire broke out in the area of Cattai Ridge Road, Maraylya, area shortly after 1.30pm, according to the RFS.
“A bush fire is burning in the area of Cattai Ridge Road, Maraylya. The fire is burning in an easterly direction towards Hidden Valley Lane and Halcrows Road,” the RFS stated.
“Firefighters are on scene working to slow the spread of the fire.
“There are no properties currently under threat.”
By 2.30pm the fire had been listed as being controlled by firefighters.
The RFS has advised Bilpin residents to put their Bush Fire Survival Plan into action immediately.
“If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property. Leaving early is your safest option,” the service stated.
“Well prepared and actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire.”

Meanwhile, a total fire ban has been declared for the Hawkesbury council area until 11.59pm tonight, August 15.
During the ban no fire can be lit in the open, including incinerators and barbecues, which burn solid fuel (wood or charcoal).
A gas or electric barbecue can be used but only if it is on a residential property within 20m of the house or dwelling, is under the direct control of an adult, the ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials, and an immediate and continuous supply of water is available.
A fine of up to $5,500 and up to 12 months jail is applicable for those breaching the ban.
