Hawkesbury City Council will investigate extending rebates for pensioners on rates and charges to self-funded retirees.
Council currently provides a pensioner rebate of up to $250 applicable to rates and domestic waste charges, however self-funded retirees do not meet the eligibility criteria to access the rebate.
Councillor Danielle Wheeler moved at the July 31 council meeting that council officers prepare a report detailing options that could be investigated to extend the current pensioner rebates for rates and charges to self-funded retirees.
“Self-funded retiress face the same issues, including limited income and the rising cost of living as pensioners,” Cr Wheeler stated in her notice of motion. “Council recognises this is a significant challenge experienced by many ratepayers in the local government area and should therefore investigate options available to provide this assistance.”
The notice of motion was carried and a report is due to be prepared.
