About 100 koi fish worth an estimated $10,000 have been reported stolen from a pond in the front yard of a South Maroota house.
Hawkesbury police stated the owner of the Wisemans Ferry Road home believed the fish were stolen over a period of weeks, after she reported seeing a blue tray back ute with small water carting tanks on the back parked outside her home in mid to late June.
When the owner arrived home the vehicle sped off, police stated.
“On the morning of July 12, the owner reported seeing a white four-by-four vehicle similar in size to a Suzuki Jeep parked on the nature strip outside the house,” a Hawkesbury police spokesman said.
“When the owner arrived back home the vehicle drove off quickly.
“It is reported by the owner that about 100 fish were in the pond. The fish were there when the owner bought the house some years back.
“An estimated value of $10,000 has been reported to police.”
The existence of the fish was well known in the area and police are appealing for any information in relation to the theft.
