HAWKESBURY Council will continue its search for a location for a new Police Citizens Youth Club, potentially west of the Hawkesbury River.
The Hawkesbury has been given $13 million in state government funding for the new facility, but a location has not been found.
The matter came before Hawkesbury Council on June 26.
The adopted Notice of Motion saw Council acknowledge it had previously sought a PCYC facility west of the Hawkesbury River, among other things.
Hawkesbury Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett said the PCYC facility would be great for the region.
“We all agree this would be a facility that would be a wonderful thing for the youth of the Hawkesbury,” she said.
“I hope it can be propelled forward reasonably quickly to find out where we can have this PCYC.”
Council’s general manager Peter Conroy said staff were looking at a number of different sites for the facility.
“We are going to look at sites either side of the river. The PCYC is particularly interested in sites that have access to good public transport,” he said.
He added that in discussions between the PCYC and Council, a location near public transport was preferred by the PCYC. Mr Conroy said there was a potential for a dedicated bus run to shuttle people from across the LGA to the facility.
