An elderly woman has been transported to hospital by helicopter after being hit by a vehicle at Bowen Mountain.
A Hawkesbury police spokesman said the incident occurred shortly after 8.30am on Thursday, May 17 on Lieutenant Bowen Drive, Bowen Mountain, when the 71-year-old passenger of a Subaru Forester towing a caravan got out to check something at the rear of the vehicle.
The 69-year-old driver then moved the vehicle forward to avoid obstructing passing traffic while the passenger was positioned between the vehicle and the caravan, he said.
“[The passenger] was run over by the caravan as the vehicle moved forward,” the spokesman stated.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the ambulance helicopter was called to the scene, landing in nearby Bowen Mountain Road.
“A … female was suffering facial, arm and wrist and hip injuries,” she said. “She was transported in a stable condition to Westmead Hospital via helicopter.”
The vehicle and caravan were towed from the scene for further examination, and the driver was interviewed at Parramatta Police Station by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
