Richmond will be well represented at the Bondi Boxing Gym Promotions fight night on Saturday, April 14, with five fighters entered for the event to be held at Bondi Junction RSL.
Christian Rooker, Luke Betts, Harison Winters, Antonio Ponce and Joshua Sgroi will all take to the ring, three of them for the first time.
The fight night will be the first for Ponce, 16, and Sgroi, 18, as well as Rooker who will take on the masters division. The event will be the second fight for Betts and seventh for Winters.
Coach at No Limits Gym Richmond, Jason Naylor, said that each of the men were well prepared for next weekends bouts and said he was proud of their hard work so far.
“All of the boys should go well, they have been getting pumped in the gym for last six weeks so their fitness is where it needs to be.
“They all have their strong suits, Antonio has quick hands, Chris has fitness and strength … they’ll all put on a good show.
Naylor took three fighters to Bondi Junction last year and said he looks forward to a return to the city next week.
“Preparation has been really good, everyone has worked as a team, they have been supportive of each other, and they have become very close.
“We’ve been focusing on foot work, angles, and clean straight punching with power.
“If I didn't have confidence in the fighters I wouldn't allow them to fight, I wouldn’t put someone in for the sake of it
“They have all shown me determination and have pushed through what they originally believed to be their best and have come out the other end better than they could have imagined.
“I have done hard rounds with them all and feel confident in their ability.
“They have all grown and the younger guys have matured out of sight.
“Win or lose they are already winners. Fighting is the easy part on the night, it’s the six weeks leading up carrying injuries and being pushed mentally and physically that’s the though part.
Doors open to the event at 6pm and tickets are on sale now.
