Get set for the Oakville Bush Fire Brigade Family Day and Car Show

A resident of The Slopes, Ms Sherlock said she has been attending the Oakville RFS car and bike show for years, and is looking forward to showing-off her brown 1972 Ford XA station wagon with V8 engine and socialising with other machinery enthusiasts on the day.

“I don’t have children, I have cars!” she laughed. “She’s my eldest child at the moment, and she’s been my pride and joy since 2003.”

Ms Sherlock and her partner own a wrecking yard, and she said they have “cars everywhere” - including a hotrod her partner is currently doing-up.

They attend a lot of shows, including all the local shows and Summernats every year.

“It’s a good chance to have a bit of fun and show people what you can do with the wagon. We need more females coming out and doing burnouts and having competitions and that,” she said.

While she won’t be doing burnouts at the Oakville Family Day and Car Show, she said the event is for a great cause, with all money raised going towards the Oakville Volunteer Fire Brigade, which has been running for 72 years.

The event has all the fun of a family fair – with rides for youngsters and the young-at-heart on double-decker buses and trikes – as well as various food and novelty stores, and vehicles from all eras.

Event organiser Ian Irons said this year’s line-up includes off-road buggies and trucks, micro cars, motorcycles (Indian, Moto, Guzzi, Vintage and Japanese) Morris Minors, Datsuns, Anglias, Prefects, Ford GTs, Holden HSV Club cars, Mustangs, Chevy Classics, Dodges, Valiants, VWs, Utes, and even buses.

“Most of these vehicles and machines call the Hawkesbury, Nepean Valley home plus some from surrounding areas and it is the best chance to get a look at some pretty amazing toys locally in the one place,” Mr Irons said.

“This year we are expecting more of the later model modified cars to make their presence felt.”

The show will take place at the Pitt Town Sporting Club at 139 Old Pitt Town Road.

Shows and displays will begin at 10am and there will be a $10 fee for each car entrant, or a gold coin donation for others. There are prizes to be won – the car judging presentation will happen around 1.30pm.
