RIVERSTONE has won the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association first grade premiership for the 2017-18 season, the second first grade premiership in the club’s history.
The final played at Bensons Lane over Saturday and Sunday ended in a draw with Bligh Park, thanks to a few spells of rain over the weekend.
With Riverstone finishing the season as minor premiers, the club was awarded the premiership.
Riverstone finished the regular season with 54 points, with seven wins from 12 matches.
Bligh Park was third on the ladder, 10 points behind.
Bligh Park actually had the upper hand in the match, after posting 8-229 before declaring.
Unfortunately for Bligh Park, the team was unable to bowl out Riverstone and claim the victory. Riverstone was 7-132 before the match was called on Sunday afternoon.
Bligh Park captain Michael Van Der Reydon, pictured right, scored an unbeaten 113 in the match. Not to be outdone, Riverstone’s Dylan Whitby, who opened the bowling, took six wickets in the match.
With the bat, three Riverstone players got into the 20s but there were no big score. As for Bligh Park, three bowlers claimed two wickets apiece.
Wilberforce snagged two HDCA titles as well, winning both the second and third grade competitions at the weekend.
In second grade, Wilberforce won outright against Schofields.
Andrew Sobiesiak took seven wickets in the first innings for Wilberforce and another five in the second to finish with 12 wickets in the match.
Grant Caroll also had a good day, taking two in the first innings and five in the next, with the pair being the only bowlers used by Wilberforce.
A half-century to Trent Hawkett helped Wilberforce outscore Schofields.
In third grade, Wilberforce beat Freemans Reach outright as well.
It was a close one, with Wilberforce getting enough runs to win by one wicket.
Brad Payne hit 82 not out in the first innings to top score for the match and guide Wilberforce to victory.
In fourth grade, a big first innings from Freemans Reach was enough to secure a victory over Riverstone.
Brock Fitton scored 54 for Wilberforce, while Colin Brown fell just short of the half-century mark, falling on 49 runs. Jason Horne and Rob Fitton both took four wickets each.
In fifth grade, Richmond defeated Wilberforce, thanks to a big first innings total.
Harry Stever scored 74 to top score for Richmond.
