HAWKESBURY based mother and daughter duo Wanda and Chelsea Ings had a perfect weekend as the pair shared in the victory of Pretty ‘N’ Perfect at a race meeting at Cowra on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Wanda and ridden by Chelsea, the four-year-old mare has had her fair share of setbacks in her relatively short ten start career, but the patience of the Ings family meant her maiden was shed in defining style at Cowra.
Sent out as a $10 chance, Pretty ‘N’ Perfect surprised many punters and became the 65th winner for Wanda Ings and the 46th winner for Chelsea.
“Pretty ‘N’ Perfect has had her issues, and been pretty frustrating, but Chelsea persevered and deserves a lot of credit,” Wanda said of the mare after the win.
“Hopefully now (she) will turn the corner now that she has broken through,” she said.
The win carried extra importance as just a day prior Chelsea partnered the Bronwyn Mackie-trained Kailis Pearl, a close friend of the family who shares her small team with Ings’ stabling complex.
“Bronwyn rode a lot of work for the late Guy Walter, and whilst racing is a hobby for her outside her work, she is very passionate about it,” said Wanda.
“It was great that Chelsea could win races for both myself and Bronwyn”.
Recently, Chelsea was also very lucky to escape serious injury, after a barrier incident while racing in Newcastle on February 17.
