Georgia Kay wants desperately to be heard and she has her sights set on being the inaugural winner of We Are Hawkesbury: The Sound.
So keen is Georgia, 16, that she was the first to sign up as an entrant.
“I have decided to enter this competition as I believe it will be an amazing opportunity to get my name out there,” she said.
“Ever since I was young I have always loved singing. I have performed in many singing competitions and I try to perform as much as possible.”
A Gazette initiative, via The Sound we aim to give a leg up to a local singer-songwriter.
Georgia said that despite having performed for quite some time, writing her own material was something relatively new.
“I feel like I am able tell stories through my music that I can’t really talk about in my everyday life,” she said.
“My original song that I have sent is called ‘I Wish You Knew’ and I wrote this song about my friend who has gone through a lot.”
Entries to the competition are open to independent-unsigned singer-songwriters who call Hawkesbury home.
Entrants must be aged 16 and over, perform an original composition, and be able to accompany themselves musically.
A group of 15 finalists will be chosen. They will be randomly placed into three groups.
Each will be filmed performing their composition and the public will decide upon a winner for the three groups.
A judging panel, including Bowen Mountain recording artist Imogen Clark, will then determine the winner.
The will receive and exciting prize pack, which includes the recording of a two-track single and a performance on the main stage on each day of this year’s Hawkesbury Show [April 20, 21 and 22]. Full prize pack announced in coming weeks.
Entrants must be available for filming by the Gazette from March 12 to 17 (excluding March 14).
To enter, send a link to a video of yourself playing an original track and a brief write-up about yourself to mlawrence@fairfaxmedia.com.au. Entries close Wednesday, February 28.
