HAWKESBURY Baseball Club saw its two senior teams clash in a Sydney Metropolitan Baseball league semi-final at the weekend, with the Gold team emerging 15-5 victors over the Blue team.
The clash in the G2 North grade Gold advance, while Blue was knocked out of the finals.
The Gold team will take on St Marys this week for a grand final spot.
Gold team third baseman Ethan Brookes said it was a great game.
He said a first innings home run by batsman Leo Grosso, and a double play by James Newton swung the match in his team’s favour.
“Leo hit a home run to get us seven runs up in the first,” he said.
“James Newton had a big double play. He took a catch in centrefield and threw it to first to get another guy out.”
Brookes said the win snapped a six game losing streak for his team.
“We hadn’t won since November,” he said.
“We were coming second on the ladder until the start of that six game losing streak. We were head to head with Penrith who have moved into the grand final.”
Brookes said it was a good feeling to break the losing streak, but would have preferred not to knock out the Hawkesbury team in the process.
Meanwhile, the Oakville Raiders lost to St Marys 7-6 in the H Grade semi-final, but play Carlingford Red for a grand final spot.
