Shelves of humbugs, acid drops, jelly beans, bon bons and all manner of other confectionary delights, displayed in a rainbow of glass jars, has always made The Boiled Lolly in Braidwood a welcome stop for Canberrans heading to or from the coast.
And the treats don't end there with the "olde worlde"-inspired shop also offering an ice creamery, toasties and other light meals and - allegedly - the best smoothies and thick shakes around.
The owners of The Boiled Lolly are now ready to hang up their aprons and the circa-1900s building is looking for new owners to continue its legacy or to reinvent its future.
Reg O'Connell of Landmark Braidwood is born and bred in the town, an hour out of Canberra, and he says The Boiled Lolly is a much-loved institution.
"It's a popular stop for visitors. In some ways it's kind of like stepping into yesteryear - the kids are dazzled by all those lollies and it's a bit of a trip down memory lane for adults who might not have seen some of their favourites for years," he says.
"The Boiled Lolly represents a tremendous opportunity for someone looking to relocate to a country town that's really buzzing."
O'Connell says the proposition may have appeal to an older couple, but - equally - to a younger family.
"The business offers owners flexibility around opening hours that would suit those with school-age children," he says.
The Landmark agent says the building sits on a 512 square metre block on the town's main strip. The shop-caf?? comprises about 120sq m of retail, dining and kitchen area with large storage facilities. There's also a provision for footpath seating.

O'Connell says Braidwood has enjoyed a strong resurgence in popularity in the past 12 months that shows no sign of slowing down.
"People have started to call it 'South Bowral'. Many parts of the southern highlands are now pricing themselves out of the market and buyers are looking further afield," he says.
"They like what Braidwood has to offer with its proximity to Canberra and the coast - and they recognise the value it offers."
