Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association players Hannah Victor and Matisse Letherbarrow will don the NSW blue for the under-17s National Netball Championships in Adelaide next April.
Hannah, 16, was selected in the development squad last year but stepped up this season.
“It’s pretty emotional for me to make the team as it was my goal for my final year of juniors,” she said. “Now that I’m in it, it’s pretty good.”
Hannah has previously made indoor state and national teams but said this selection is the “big thing” and the pathway to the elite level.
She played Metro League with Baulkham Hills last year and has now signed with the Eastwood Ryde Hawks under-20s in the Netball NSW Premier League.
“It was really good for me and helped me so much in my netball career so now I’m moving into premier and feeling fit and strong so it will be good,” she said. “The aim is to keep progressing as a player so I can maintain my position in those elite teams.”
Matisse, 15, said the NSW selection was a great way to cap her junior career.
“Going through your junior years, everything is focused on making this team because it’s such a big achievement,” she said.
The Old Toongabbie resident has previously made NSW teams, including earlier this month when she competed at the Pacific School Games.
Despite breaking her finger on the first day, she helped NSW to a silver medal and was selected in the All-Australian team.
“The main goal was to make the Australian side afterwards and I made that as well which was a really good feeling,” she said.
“It’s going to be pretty good to pull on the green and gold.”
Matisse has also signed with a Premier League under-20s team with North Shore United.
