Blacktown International Sand Sculpting Exhibition will turn Blacktown Showground into a sandy world.

This summer, characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland will come to life – grain by grain.

More than 250 tonnes of sand will be brought to the inaugural Blacktown International Sand Sculpting Exhibition at Blacktown Showground.

Blacktown Council is hosting the exhibition in partnership with Sandstorm Events, an award winning sand sculpture event company from Melbourne.

“This special event has found the perfect venue in Blacktown Showground, and we think thousands of residents and visitors will be amazed by the sculptures,” Blacktown mayor Stephen Bali said.

“Art and culture has always had a central role to play in Blacktown, and I am proud that we are able to present this popular emerging art form right in the heart of Blacktown.”

Tickets for the event are now on sale and artists will soon begin creating the sculptures ready for the opening on January 13.

Sandstorm Events director Sharon Redmond encouraged people to attend the pre-event opening from January 10 – 12 and see the sculptors in action.

“A group of 10 international and Australian artists will then start shaping this sand into large-scale, intricate sculptures in preparation for the exhibition opening in January,” Ms Redmond said.
