When it was announced that October 20 was the date the last Holden would roll off the production line, a collective wail of NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO could be heard from our dyed-in-the-wool Holden enthusiasts.
While Hawkesbury owners won’t be able to demonstrate their undying allegiance, a Facebook page called ‘Last Day of Holden Manufacturing in Australia’ is calling for dedicated Holden owners to gather outside the factory in South Australia on the day.
“Please come join other Holden enthusiasts in their Australian-made Holden at Holden Vehicle Operations (H.V.O) in Elizabeth, as we park our cars outside in honour of the final day of production,” the page says.
The brand has been loved in this country since 1948. Those who grew up in the 60s and 70s will remember the rivalry between Holden and Ford owners, and the infamous reputation of panelvans, filling drive-ins and scaring parents of daughters.
