TOP jockeys put on a riding masterclass at the Hawkesbury Race Club on Sunday, to the delight of the connections of winning horses.
The Hawkesbury’s Scott Singleton enjoyed a satisfying double on home ground, while John Thompson landed a rare three-peat in the fifth, sixth and seventh races thanks to textbook rides from Blake Shinn on Meliboea, Krystal and Our Belisa.
Singleton had snatched the final race at Newcastle on Saturday with Poet’s Advocate, before Concessions for Christian Reith, and Itasca for Tye Angland, saluted at more favourable odds.
Reith demonstrated keen judgement of pace when leading throughout on Concessions, while Itasca proved to be quite the handful for Angland, who just 24 hours prior had won the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes on Ace High at Randwick.
Blake Spriggs landed the first event on Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s speedster Grand Finalist in class-record time, Glyn Schofield gently steered a wayward Laussel for James Cummings in the third, and to complete a memorable weekend, Angland also won the fourth race on Gabrielle Englebrecht’s gelding Dynamic Bid.
