THE politically correct culture that seems ever more prevailing can f*** off, according to Australian comedy legend Kevin ‘Bloody’ Wilson.
In an era where ‘it was a just joke’ is no longer an automatic get out of jail free card, even for comedians, Wilson confronts that with an attitude imbued by one of his more famous songs DILLIGAF, otherwise known as ‘Do I Look Like I Give a F***?’
“I am working on a new song at the moment called ‘My Give a F*** Metre is F***ed’,” Wilson told The Advertiser ahead of his ‘The Second of His Final Farewell Tours...Perhaps’, which will hit Camden Golf Club on Tuesday, May 9.
“I really don't care what other people think [about my jokes],” he said.
“Fortunately when I perform I am with a group of like-minded people who don't necessarily agree with everything I say but see the funny side of what it is all about.”
Wilson said despite the ever-growing Political Correctness culture in Australia and globally, his attitude of not caring what other people thought had allowed him to thrive and survive, even with his particular brand of expletive-laden humour.
“This is exactly how we all talk, but we tidy it up when it is appropriate, and we swear when it is appropriate,” he said.
“If I was at a wedding, expected to make a speech, I wouldn't go up and say 'what a f***ing top day this is’. I’d talk in a manner that was appropriate.”
Wilson said despite his on-stage persona, he was able to tone down the f***s in his day-to-day life to a bare minimum, when required.
“If I am with my mates having coffee, which I generally do when I am home, sure, we all talk like that,” he said.
“If the wives turn up, we limit it, you put a lid on that sort of stuff. It is commonsense.”
It’s fair to say Wilson will never be a PC advocate.
“Political correctness is f***ed,” he said.
“If we want to get on with the job of cleaning up the world or Australia, the best thing we can do is go on and declare war on political correctness.”
