THE Hawkesbury’s Kurtis Dodds-Knott was given an award by Hawkesbury Council for facing trying challenges head on.
Mr Dodds-Knott was given the Natalie Burton Memorial Award, whose recipients receive it for tackling challenges with determination to succeed.
Mr Dodds-Knott was diagnosed with an intracranial Arteriovenous Malformation at three and has since had seven major operations to alleviate the problem.
He requires frequent treatment to help with his condition.
The award came with a $200 prize, but Mr Dodds-Knott elected to donate the money to Careflight and the Starlight Foundation.
Mr Dodds-Knott spoke briefly at Council after receiving the award, and said he as only too happy to give something back, after many people had spent countless hours improving his life.
Natalie Burton was an outstanding Hawkesbury student with a passion for travel, but sadly died of cancer in 2003.
