He may only be 22 and have just one first grade game to his name, but Parramatta Eels youngster, Daniel Alvaro is ready to take on the North Queensland Cowboys.
After playing only six minutes against the Penrith Panthers last week, Alvaro has again been named on the bench to face a traveling Cowboys side looking for their tenth consecutive win.
“They’re a high quality side with plenty of experience. They’ll be tough, especially with guys like James Tamou and Matt Scott upfront,” he said.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the match. Brad’s (Eels coach Brad Arthur) given me my role to get those metres up the middle and work hard in defence and I’ll do everything I can to help the team.”
Named the New South Wales cup player of the season in 2014, Alvaro’s debut seemed only a matter of time, but the prop said he was a little worried he wasn’t going to feature against the Panthers.
“I didn’t think I was going to get on for a second there but it was great to get out there and really happy to have played my part in a good win.”
“Brad let me know during the week about my debut. We finished a wrestling session and he just pulled me aside and told me I was going to be playing.”
Alvaro’s debut makes him the 772nd player to have worn the blue and gold.
