Tammy Mills had no idea what "ice" was when she started as crime reporter at The Border Mail in December 2012.

"I think I just thought it was frozen water," she laughs.

Within weeks though, she soon realised that this drug was having a silent but horrible effect on her new community.

In this week's Behind the Scenes interview, she recalls:

- the moment the impact of 'ice' on the community really hit her

- the most bizarre stories of 'ice' users

- why it's so important that drug users aren't written off by society
