The 2014 ANZAC Youth Scholarship recipients have been announced.
Baulkham Hills High school student Lihini De Silva was among the six essay competition winners who will tour Gallipoli, the Somme and Ypres in November.
"It was almost impossible to separate the magnificent entries received from right across western Sydney"— Baulkham Hills MP David Elliott
Baulkham Hills MP David Elliott said it was difficult to select the winning works from a pool of exceptionally high-quality entries.
"After being assessed on five separate occasions by the judging panel, it was still almost impossible to separate the magnificent entries received from right across western Sydney," he said.
Almost half of the entries received came from female students and 43 per cent from families with a non-English speaking background.
Lihini will be joined on the tour by Emily Frey of Quakers Hill High School, Jack Jeffries of Parramatta Marist High School, Dan Nguyen of Hurlstone Agricultural High School, and Samuel Lewis and Madison Thompson of St Columba's Catholic College.
Other historically significant sites and events they will visit during their time in Turkey, France and Belgium are the Musee de l'Armee, the Palace of Versailles, the Remembrance Sunday "Cenotaph Parade" at Whitehall, the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster and Churchill's War Rooms.
The group will also attend the Remembrance Day service at Westminster Abbey and the Imperial War Museum, keeping a diary of all the experiences. The Anzac youth Scholarship trip is on November 1-13.
