Atalla is Labor candidate

Blacktown councillor Edmond Atalla has been preselected unopposed as the Labor candidate for Mount Druitt at next year's state election.

He vowed to continue the good work of retiring MP Richard Amery.

"Our area has been continually snubbed and I am more than ready to roll up my sleeves and fight for the services and facilities our area richly deserves," Mr Atalla said.

"My key priorities include the Francis Street overpass duplication; stopping the cuts to Mount Druitt Hospital; and fighting for the installation of a lift at Rooty Hill railway station. I also welcome any suggestions from local residents to further improve our electorate as I believe that together we can make a difference."

Contribution 'phenomenal'

Federal Chifley MP Ed Husic has paid tribute to state Mount Druitt MP Richard Amery, who will retire from state politics next March.

"Richard's phenomenal contribution is evident everywhere you look in our area - he is a true local member," Mr Husic said.

"To serve more than 31 years in any role is a great achievement. I take my hat off to Richard's family for sharing him with the rest of us for that long."
