Communication students at the University of Western Sydney will star on the small screen.

Students will feature in the second TV series of The Why Generation airing on Television Sydney (TVS), digital 44, on Thursday, August 14 at 8.30pm.

The show is a panel discussion series aimed at engaging younger people on a variety of topics ranging from fashion to politics.

James Preston (pictured), 23, of Glenhaven, will be a panelist on the series.

"I do a radio show on 90.5FM in Baulkham Hills and I've got an interest and a flair for doing that type of stuff," Mr Preston said.

Mr Preston said the show has helped him get a foot in the door.

"Since I started on the show I was offered a job with the Western Sydney Business Access [newspaper] working on pilot episodes on start-up businesses and looking at young entrepreneurs," he said.

The 10-part series was created by the students.

Everything from pre-production planning to auditions, crew and shooting was completed in the Television Sydney studios at the station's UWS Werrington South campus.

The show will be repeated on Wednesdays at 10.30pm and Mondays at 1am.
