The councillor walkout at Council’s June 24 meeting over the Redbank development’s Voluntary Planning Agreement may not be an isolated incident, Councillor Barry Calvert told the Gazette yesterday.
Councillors Christine Paine, Mary Lyons-Buckett, Leigh Williams and Calvert walked out in protest after Cr Williams was denied the right to speak on the VPA of the 1400-home North Richmond development, as the mayor wanted to wrap up the item.
The VPA is an agreement between the developer, Council and the state government to shape the development more towards what the community wants from it.
It also allows the developer greater flexibility in its contribution to the community, instead of just paying Section 94 fees.
It needs to be signed before the development can move ahead.
