Jamm for Genes is calling upon Australians of all ages to get involved in a united show of support for research into childhood genetic diseases, affecting 1 in every 20 kids. Celebrating 21 years of raising funds for Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), generations of Australians have grown up with Jeans for Genes, which began with the simple idea of wearing jeansand making a gold coin donation to help find cures for sick children nationwide. Through the years the fundraising effort has been led by a legion of volunteers known as ‘Genies’ supporting in a number of different ways. These efforts have resulted in donations reaching $60 million over the charity’s 20-year history.

The event is encouraging Aussies to register their support and join the army of Genies in the lead-up to Jeans for Genes on August1. Barry Kenyon, Jeans for Genes’ national campaign manager, said: “There are many ways to show your support for Jeans for Genes from wearing denim or buying merchandise to volunteering or holding your own fund-raiser.’’
