WILL Richard Amery stay or go?

Mount Druitt voters should know within months whether their Labor MP will contest next year's state election or step aside for fresh blood.

Labor has confirmed its candidates in neighbouring electorates over recent weeks but the state government's longest serving MP told the Star he's still undecided.

"Nominations for Mount Druitt haven't been called yet," Mr Amery said.

"But I expect to make my decision by the middle of the year. It's been my life for more than 30 years.

"Many of my constituents weren't born when I was first elected."

Regardless of his decision, Mr Amery believes state Labor can return to power next March.

"The Coalition state and federal governments aren't delivering what people asked for," he said.

"I think we'll win the Londonderry seat and give Mulgoa a shake.

"We may not win every seat but I think we'll see a substantial swing back to Labor."

Mr Amery, who hasn't ever lost his passion for politics, predicts a Labor resurgence in western Sydney: "A lot of money has been sucked out of these seats and and into the North West Rail Link".

Meanwhile, Todd Carney has started campaigning as the Labor candidate for Mulgoa.

The Glenmore Park father-of-two was an electorate officer for former Lindsay MP David Bradbury for six years and is now a commercial furniture installer for a small business.

"I am passionate about my community and want to make western Sydney an even better place to live, work and raise a family," Mr Carney said.

"Our region needs someone who will fight for residents, even if it means ruffling a few feathers in state parliament."

The Mulgoa seat underwent major boundary changes late last year.

Suburbs now include Badgerys Creek, Colyton, Glenmore Park, Greendale, Luddenham, Mulgoa, Orchard Hills, Oxley Park and Wallacia.
