Tour de Hills has some new challenges

Whether you fancy yourself as the next Cadel Evans or just like pedaling around for fun, there is a route for everyone in this year’s Tour de Hills on March 2.

Castle Hill Rotary Club, organisers of the charity event which is sponsored by the Hills News and The Australian Hotel & Brewery, said they had listened to feedback from regular riders and created a challenging track for experienced riders.

This year it will have four routes ranging in length and difficulty.

Rotary's chairman of the Tour de Hills' organising committee, Mike Blair, said the new course was for experienced riders and very hilly with lots of bends.

"We redesigned the course and created a difficult straight 90km ride," he said. "And our three other courses will suit all levels. The family route is popular and parents take their kids on the toddler bike seats or children can go on their own bikes."

All courses will depart from and finish at the Australian Hotel & Brewery in Annangrove where a free lunch will be provided to all entrants.

Which ride is for you?

■ 15km route: This family ride is suitable for children. It comprises about 3km of road and three circuits of a lake on White Hart Drive, Rouse Hill — all in the safety of a designated cycleway. Departs: 9.30am.

■ 30km route: Ideally suited to riders who don’t do a lot of serious riding. While there is a long climb up Glenhaven Road, most of it is relatively easy to ride and has beautiful scenery along the way. Departs: 9am.

■ 50km route: This ride is suitable for experienced riders who like a challenge but still want to enjoy the view. It goes through Oakville, Maraylya, Middle Dural and Dural. Departs: 8am.

■ 90km route: A very challenging and demanding ride with numerous road hills. For very experienced riders. Departs: 7.30am.
