Great start for new school year

Tony Karam of Werrington has never had a day off school in his life.

He is about to start year 7 at Kingswood’s St Dominic’s College, after completing a perfect attendance record at Penrith Public School.

‘‘I only got sick in the holidays,’’ Tony said.

‘‘If I woke up [on a school day] feeling sick, I’d think about staying home, but I’d go to school and soon feel better.’’

His mother, Mirna Karam, said she and her children hardly ever got sick.

She said they ate healthy food, looked after themselves and perhaps liked going to work or school too much.

‘‘If Tony felt sick he’d take a tablet and head off to school,’’ Mrs Karam said.

Tony said he enjoyed school and did not want to missing any days there.

‘‘I like English the most; I like learning how to spell the different words,’’ he said.

‘‘I don’t like maths as much.’’

He also likes sport.

‘‘I played soccer and rugby union for Penrith Public School; I hope I can do the same at St Dom’s,’’ Tony said.

‘‘I like cooking too.

‘‘I like making things; banana cake is my best.’’

He said he hoped to repeat his perfect attendance record at St Dominic’s.

He wants to enjoy his school days and not think too much about what he was going to do later.

‘‘That’s all in the future,’’ Tony said.
