The Lower Portland ferry is due to return to service by the end of the week following an extensive overhaul.
Hawkesbury City Council stated the ferry was towed from Sydney Harbour earlier this week, and operations are expected to begin by Friday.
"The ferry has been sea towed from the shipyard in Sydney Harbour following completion of the out-of-water overhaul and arrived at Lower Portland on Monday, January 13," council's Director of Infrastructure Services Jeff Organ stated.
"It is expected that following the site commissioning works on the ferry, including necessary testing, checks and adjustments that are now in progress, the ferry will recommence service on Friday, January 17.
"An update on the actual time of the ferry's return to service will be advised as soon as possible via council's website and social media.
"Variable message signage boards located on both sides of the river will also be updated to advise the community of these details."
