Couple Italia Ricci and Robbie Amell have managed to blend their personal and professional lives together more than once and their trip to Australia later this month will be no different.
They will be among the drawcards in town for the annual Supanova Comic Con and Gaming Expo from June 21 to 23.
The two actors have appeared in a variety of television shows and movies throughout their respective careers, doing what every actor does and just tried to find the next role.
Each have had their own unique breakthrough roles and set backs that have led them to where they are now.
Robbie Amell landed his first role in 2005 in the family film Cheaper by the Dozen 2.
"I kind of fell into it," he said. "I grew up playing hockey in Toronto ... and my modelling agent called me for an audition to play Eugene Levy's son in Cheaper by the Dozen 2. I just lucked out it was really more of a look thing than anything else.
"I just had so much fun shooting it and I just quit hockey to pursue acting, and luckily my second role was Life with Derek, which was a Disney show that happened to shoot in Toronto.
"It got me enough articles and press to get my Visa and move to the states and honestly in the early parts of your career ... you don't really have the luxury to say no to anything."
Amell has enjoyed moving away from those genres and into more serious and mature roles.
"That just kind of comes with finally starting to look a little older," he said. "I still definitely don't normally play my age but for a while there I was early/mid twenties playing 17, which I think happens to a lot of people in this industry.
"I definitely think it is nice to be able to play more mature roles, more mature writing and dialogue and projects. It's been nice."
Amell starred in the short-lived show The Tomorrow People, which ended after its first season, but it allowed him to work closely with Greg Berlanti, the creator of the Arrowverse, where his cousin Stephen Amell stars as the Green Arrow.
"He's [Berlanti] now become like an older brother to me, he's become a mentor," he said.
"Getting to work with him and getting to shoot 22 episodes of my own TV show was definitely a pivotal point in my career ... I've stayed close with him and he has been great to my cousin and my wife, producing Supergirl and Arrow."
Amell's friendship with Berlanti and future co-star Victor Garber led to him being offered the role of Firestorm in The Flash.
"[Berlanti] said, 'do you just want to come do this?', I was a huge fan of the comic books, DC sent me a big Firestorm care package, and I said 'yes off course'. Sadly I wasn't able to continue the character ... because I was too busy at the time.
"I grew up loving all comics but I was a huge Batman fan. It was a dream come true, getting to go to set, getting to pretend to shoot fire out of my hands, fly on and off screen.
"My costume sucked though. I'm hoping that whatever the next superhero I get to play is, will have a cooler costume.
"I feel like TV and film are separate, and if you look at Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds, they've played more than one character. I'd like the next one to be the right one, it will probably be the last one."
Amell's newest project is the crowdfunded science fiction film Code 8, which will be released later this year, with premiers across the world, including Sydney on June 20.
"It has been a dream project for me," he said. "It has taken me several years to make. Stephen and I have always wanted to work together so getting to do that was amazing. There's a nice fan base in Australia that's excited about it.
"It's been an unbelievable experience. We needed to make something cool with the short film. We never expected to have the traction that we did. It was this perfect storm of everyone banding together to make this movie. I wouldn't change a thing."
Amell's wife Italia Ricci has had her share of bouncing between jobs and cancelled shows, before having her turn as a comic book character, in her case playing a super villain.
Ricci received a lot of minor roles before landing the lead in Chasing Life as a young journalist with leukemia.
"I loved that show, I felt so responsible for the telling of that story," said Ricci. "I enjoyed doing it, I enjoyed the people, I enjoyed the fans and the community I met because of that show.
"It was tough because the whole show revolved around my character, so I had a lot of work to do which I was up for. The part I didn't anticipate was the guilt that came along with playing a character like that because after work and on the weekends I could take off the cancer and forget about it, where so many people didn't have the opportunity to do that."
After the show's cancellation during its second season, Ricci moved onto being offered the role of Silver Banshee in Supergirl , entering a different part of the Arrowverse to Amell.
"That was crazy," she said. "That was one of the scariest things I have ever done, simply because I had first of all never been straight up offered anything before. When you go into auditions you've made choices, you've rehearsed, you've thought about the character, you have an idea of what you want to do and if you book it you know that you were right.
"When I showed up on set I had no idea what they wanted this character to be, and I don't follow comic books so I did as much research as I could do and she was portrayed so many different ways. I was terrified that I was going to disappoint everyone so I took my best guess.
"I think she turned out great. She was so much fun. I've never played a villain before. I had to use so much of my imagination. I'm much more in the dramatic and in the real. That was a trip for me.
"I love doing these conventions [Supanova], they make my day.
"It is fantastic - are you kidding me - I have so much fun. I can't believe people dress up like a character I play. I think that is one of the most validating things that is ever going to happen to me."
Ricci currently stars as Emily Rhodes alongside Keifer Sutherland in the show Designated Survivor.
"I couldn't believe that when that all happened," she said. "Keifer is one of the most hard working, invested and thoughtful people I've ever been on set with. I was in awe watching him at work everyday. It's just so amazing.
"Season three is out of this world, it is so much better. I'm so excited for everyone to see it.
"You are not ready for what she [Rhodes] goes through this season. I was not ready. Everybody is pushed to their limit and it is handled so well. It's a next level show.
"I've never cried as much on screen."
