Brisbane singer-songwriter Eves Karydas is releasing music under her own name, after first bursting on to the scene as Eves The Behavior in 2014.
She was a triple J darling back then, landing a support slot for Courtney Barnett, and even performed at the Laneway Festival.
But at the age of 21 she decided she needed more life experience and moved to London.
"It was a great challenge but one of the best things I could have done in terms of pushing myself out of my comfort zone," Karydas told AAP.
"I was 21 and feeling a little too settled, and I wanted to feel uncomfortable and like I had to work to find myself in a big city."
After a couple of years in the UK, writing music and collaborating with musicians and producers, Karydas has some new music she feels ready to share.
Armed with a new perspective on the world, she also realised she no longer wanted to use her moniker and embraced her original Greek name.
"Being in London kind of rejigged my priorities in a big way. I was away from everything that was important to me so it put a big spotlight on the importance of being authentic and as real as possible," she said.
"I just decided I didn't want to hide behind a persona any more and I thought the only way to do that is to give my actual name. It's a big connection to my family because I'm half Greek and it's a nice reminder to me of where I grew up and where I come from."
Karydas has released two singles already from her upcoming album, There For You and Further Than The Planes Fly, both marking a more mature sound while holding on to the synth-pop loveliness that made her special originally.
"I've been making a new record but I haven't been working in a public way. I've just been writing, experiencing things, and just started releasing music again after two years," she said.
"I was just a nobody in a big city and suddenly on the bottom of the pile but I worked my ass off and I'm really proud of what I've accomplished over the past two years."
