RICHMOND boxer Joel Brunker recorded his 33rd career win at the Melbourne Pavillion on Friday night.
Brunker comfortably took care of Surachet Tongmala in the 35th bout of his career, winning with a second round knockout.
Brunker said he always felt comfortable in the ring, and despite a few good shots delivered by Tongmala, he said he was always confident the win would come.
“I was never in trouble. He hit with me a couple of alright shots,” he said.
“He was very big, he was heavier than me, he had long arms which I thought might give some grief, but I figured him out pretty quickly.”
Brunker said when he was in the ring, he felt in great shape physically, the best he had in a long time and it made him confident.
“I've been busting my balls in the gym. I don't feel old anymore that's for sure,” he said.
“I was feeling good in the warm-up. I wasn't as nervous as normal, I trusted that I was in good shape and I was working good.”
Brunker said he was anticipating that his next fight would be in May, although nothing was locked in at the moment.
He said he was hoping for a big year in 2018 and was working as hard as he had in his career to ensure he was in peak condition for his next bout.
“I want to keep fighting. I don't want to waste this year I want to keep busy,” he said.
