With the annual Hawkesbury Show just around the corner now is the time to start paying extra attention to your flock if you want to walk away from the poultry pavilion cock of the roost.
According to Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association president, Ross Matheson, a revamping of the classes to include modern day faciers, will ensure an exciting poultry show this year.
He said that this year there would be judging for hard and soft feather, light and heavy in standard and bantams breeds, as well as classes for standard and bantam ducks and geese.
“Our new Poultry Committee have been working very hard to smarten up the poultry shed and have partnered with several new sponsors, who have donated both product and vouchers,” Mr Matheson said.
“These sponsors have also donated generously with feed to keep the poultry all contented during the show.
“There is also various Junior Exhibitor Classes for 18 years and under for hard and soft feather standard and bantam classes along with water fowl.”
Following on from the success of last year’s competition, the popular yard chook category returns.
“For those families and schools who want to show the family pet we have classes for Back Yard and School Yard Chooks and Waterfowl,” Mr Matheson said.
“For those enthusiasts who imagine themselves as poultry fanciers, this is your start into poultry showing. During the show experienced poultry fanciers will happily talk with you about how to get into major breed showing.”
A list of all the categories, terms and conditions and entry forms are available at the official Hawkesbury Show website.
There you will find information not only about the poultry, but all of the competitions that will take place throughout the show.
Entries for the poultry section close on Monday, April 9, or upon all available pens being filled.
Hawkesbury Show will be on from April 20 to 22 (during the school holidays) at Hawkesbury Showground, open 9am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and 9am to 5pm, on Sunday.
