St Joseph’s Primary School in Schofields has been crowned the 2018 Western Sydney Wanderers School of the Year, the club has announced.
Now in its third year, the Wanderers School of the Year is a points-based competition encouraging students to engage with Wanderers club and community programs that are centred on healthy lifestyles, education and football.
As part of their prize, the Wanderers Hyundai A-League squad – together with some members of the Powerchair team – visited St Joseph’s on March 12.
St Joseph’s teacher Daniel Parnis said it was a special day for the school.
“It’s a great opportunity for our school. A lot of the kids love the Wanderers, we’ve got a lot of members at our school,” said Parnis.
“It’s great for those kids who don’t get an opportunity to go and see the Wanderers or meet their heroes.
“When teams like the Wanderers come out, it’s fantastic because the kids get to meet their heroes, they get to see them beyond just being on the field, beyond being on their TV and see that they’re actually real people that they can aspire to be like.”
