Hawkesbury Race Club will host the second heat of the lucrative PolyTrack Provincial Championships this Saturday with the $150,000 feature likely to boast both quality and quantity.
Twenty-one horses have been nominated from the five provincial clubs, including eight from Hawkesbury, with last year’s Hawkesbury heat winner Scott Singleton entering Cambage and Poet’s Advocate, both of whom have won on their home turf.
The first of five qualifiers began at Wyong last Saturday, and whilst Newcastle trainer Kris Lees provided the winner in Just Dreaming, the unstoppable momentum of Hawkesbury’s Brad Widdup continued, with honest mare Witches running third.
Given that first, second and third placegetters will qualify, Witches has confirmed her place in the $500,000 final at Royal Randwick on April 14.
The result gives Brad Widdup his first runner in the Provincial Championships final, and he could be represented further with the feature nomination of the fellow Dynamic Syndications galloper Aberration for Hawkesbury’s heat on Saturday.
Both Aberration and Witches, by the former champion racehorse and sire Lonhro, were purchased as tried horses by Dynamic Syndications from the powerful Godolphin stable and have thrived under Widdup’s care to secure wins for new connections. Aberration has won his two previous starts at Newcastle.
