Central Coast rider James Mooney has taken out the first international one-star jumping event to be held at Hawkesbury’s popular Sydney Showjumping Club (SSJC) on Sunday, February 18.
Forty-year-old rider and coach Mooney won the inaugural event at the Clarendon-based club riding his consistent stallion JB Evolution, the only combination jumping two fault-free rounds to clinch the 1.40m class.
Runner up was Izabella Stone, from Sutton in the NSW Southern Tablelands, riding Emanuelson, a combination that completed the two rounds with just one time penalty.
Third place went to Tom McDermott from Mulgoa riding Elegance De La Charmille, who completed the course on four penalties.
Eleven competitors lined up to jump the course, which was designed by local identity and international course designer Mark Atkins.
Organisers stated it was a great day out for competitors despite extreme weather conditions, with the irrigated arenas and shady trees saving the day.
