A ROADS and Maritime Services offer for a ‘viewing platform’ made from a section of the replaced Windsor Bridge has been declined by Hawkesbury Council.
The RMS proposed leaving a section of Windsor Bridge on the Windsor side of the Hawkesbury River as a viewing platform, once the Windsor Bridge Replacement Project has been completed.
The proposal said that Hawkesbury Council would maintain it, and it was met with derision by many councillors.
At the January 30 meeting, Council voted to say to the RMS that if there was to be a viewing platform, Council would not pay to maintain it.
As part of the motion, council also ‘re-iterated’ its opposition to the bridge replacement, and would make representations to the government to retain the existing bridge.
They did, however, endorse a proposal to upgrade the lighting in Thompson Square, which the Council business paper noted would be more ‘sympathetic’ with the area.
Crs Lyons-Buckett, Calvert, Rasmussen, Ross, Garrow, Wheeler and Kotlash voted for the motion.
Crs Tree, Conolly and Richards voted against the motion.
Cr Peter Reynolds declared a conflict of interest and left the chamber during the debate and vote.
