HAWKESBURY trainer Garry White said it was great to see three of his horses win at the Hawkesbury Race Club on Wednesday, January 24.
Dunatun, Fifth Affair and Letter To Juliette all came home winners for White at the first meeting of the year at Hawkesbury.
Fifth Affair and Letter To Juliette started out as race favourites and rewarded punters’ faith, however, Dunatun literally came from behind to win his race.
“Dunatun really turned the corner, he always had some sort of ability,” White said of Dunatun, who spent much of 1300-metre class 1 handicap race in last place.
“It was always a bit hard to assess what he level he would get to and whether we could get him to use what he had, but he seems to be going the right way now.”
Corey Brown steered Dunatun around the outside down the straight and managed to secure a one length victory for the three-year-old gelding.
Brown also rode Fifth Affair as well, and White said he raced very well in the 1100-metre maiden handicap.
“Corey is a high class jockey, everyone knows that and we go back a pretty long way,” he said.
Hawkesbury jockey Tye Angland rode Letter To Juliette to victory in the final race of the day – a 1800-metre benchmark 65 – beating out Jason Attard’s $17 outside chance Prodigy.
White said one of his most promising charges, Generalissimo, had trialled well recently, and he was trying to find the right for him to go in.
“Generalissimo is a very good horse, no one knows how good he is yet,” he said.
“I think he should have won the Hawkesbury Guineas pretty easily, but he has come back a better and stronger horse.”
