A young man who was considered the most seriously injured in Monday’s train crash at Richmond station has since been discharged from Westmead Hospital.
The 21-year-old man was taken to Westmead suffering leg fractures and a possible spinal injury, but has since been cleared to leave and head home.
A 77-year-old and a 69-year-old remain in Westmead Hospital however, receiving treatment for their injuries. Both are in a stable condition.
Investigations are underway into the cause of Monday’s crash which saw 15 people taken to hospital.
Passengers and witnesses of the crash said the train appeared to slow as it approached the station, before jerking forward, hitting the buffer and sending people in almost every carriage “flying”.
As of this afternoon, Tuesday January 23, the damaged train remains at Richmond Station.
