HAWKESBURY Cricket Club’s Poidevin-Gray Shield team will host a home semi-final while Kerrod Gordon scored 145 not out for second grade in a good weekend for the club.
The PG Shield team will host Gordon on Sunday at Owen Earle Oval, after taking out Sydney University in the under-21 competition in NSW Premier Cricket.
Harry Ridgewell scored 70 runs to top score for Hawkesbury, while Eknoor Singh scored 58 runs as well in the one wicket victory.
Luke Courtney and Jas Cheema both took three wickets against Sydney University, and Antum Naqvi took two in the 50-over match.
In second grade, Kerrod Gordon continued his good form with the bat, scoring 145 not out while playing against Gordon, which was his high score this season.
Gordon scored 138 earlier in the season, and he has also found himself in the 90s twice this season, while he has two other half-centuries this summer.
Gordon has been part of the second grade team that has been firing on all cylinders this season, and did so again against Gordon at the weekend.
His innings featured four sixes and 14 boundaries.
In the first day of the two-day match, Hawkesbury was 5-394, with Chaitnya Sharma scoring 68 and captain Tim Wilson scoring 67 to compliment Gordon’s big score.
Kaine Flynn-Duncombe hit four sixes in his 15-ball innings is also not out on 32.
With five wickets in hand and Gordon not out, Wilson could elect to give him a chance to go on and make an even bigger score, or declare giving the team an entire day’s play to bowl out their opposition.
Second grade is in second place on the ladder, losing only two matches so far this season.
Meanwhile in first grade, it was tough going, as Hawkesbury crawled to 186.
Dale McKay had the top score with the bat, making 69 runs from 142 balls in an innings where the team found it hard to score runs.
Jas Cheema and Jordan Gauci followed up their centuries from last week with ducks, while Josh Clarke made 32 and Corey Lowe made 31.
In some positive news for Hawkesbury, they did claim an early wicket, with Usman Qadir striking to make Gordon 1-23 at stumps.
Third grade kept Gordon to 207, fourth grade made 216 and fifth grade is 6-74 while chasing 140.
Finally, the AW Green Shield team had a narrow loss to Gordon in the finals at the weekend, ending the campaign of the under-16 team.
The grade matches against Gordon will finish on Saturday.
